MATHEMATICS TARGET SETTING 2017/2018 (AUTUMN) CLASS: NURSERY

Early Learning Goals

Numbers: Children count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

Focus Areas

  • Counting on to 80
  • Counting with objects
  • Recognition & Writing numbers to 40
  • One more/one less
  • Counting back from 10
  • Add and subtract using objects
  • Comparing numbers (more/less)

Shape, space and measures: Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognise, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.

Focus Areas

  • 2D shapes oval – pentagon(Properties)
  • Basic 3D shapes (Names)
  • Patterns(shape, size colour)
  • Recognises, creates and describes patterns.
  • Length (long & short)
  • Weight (heavy & light)
  • Positions (on, in, under, behind, infront)
  • Time (distinguish between morning/afternoon and night)
